*clippy!*Â Hit this plz: http://livewire90210.com/wordpress/tag/sysalive/ There are updates to the status of SysAlive 3, and that link will get you to all of them, including the latest release information.
For legacy/archive reasons, the rest of the post is here, but it is indeed available.
But seriously, I’m starting to love and hate Google all at the same time. Three hours of code got squashed by 30 seconds of copy/paste to make it do one notch better than it used to – in particular, it used to only be able to check if it could open a connection to a website.
Now it downloads the page that website serves, the theory being if it connects and is able to get the page, the server is not only able to accept connections, but is ALSO able to actually serve pages. I’ve seen x10’s (my paid hosting company) free servers do similar, where Apache is up and running but so bogged down or overloaded that it actually can’t serve pages anymore. SysAlive 2 would say it’s online, whereas SysAlive 3 would bail out and call it down or non-responsive.
No ETA on it yet though. I’ve still gotta do a bunch of things I took for granted on the original, namely the alert popups, sounds (which needed tweaking anyways), XML read/write, and some basic program settings, and minimize to tray…I should make a to-do list so I don’t actually miss anything.
And on the subject, why is it that I can’t code for ****? I’m having to spend lots of time just translating my own code from the old SysAlive to something with comments that I can actually use.
Which means my XNA3 CTP version of my rom/emulator/tv/movie launcher needs some tweaks and some major rewrites (as if it didn’t need them already) to make it work with the beta.
But at least I might be able to stand a chance of releasing it under the XNA license (not for the 360 mind you, but XNA3 CTP projects weren’t allowed to be released – the beta might be, and if not then I’ll wait until XNA3 goes live).
Stay tuned on that note at least. Working on fixing a few glitches I ran across in another BS program I put together because I hate dumprep.exe, and with any luck I’ll get that up here in a bit (knowing me though, a bit = 2 months).
So yeah it’s been an interesting few days. I did absolutely nothing of consequence, other than reinstalling XP on my media system. There’s some debate among users of the webhosting company I use as to whether the mysterious power-cycling harddrive is a failing power supply or a failing drive.
I’m going with failing drive since now when I plug it in it grinds like someone riding a guard rail in a race. Blech.
Least it’s only the Quantum Fireball 3gb I pulled out of some horribly old POS and not the 640 that’s actually got useful information on it. Dodged a bullet there.
Good enough; PCAlive and the EmuLauncher are linked up again, they’re under Programming Bank on the left.
Honestly that’s all I’m doing for tonight; I’ll try to borrow my moms camera and take a picture of the arcade tanksticks externals and internals, just so theres another article I can post.
Hope everyone likes the new look, its a ton easier to navigate than Joomla was (for me at least)
Seems like I make a habit of this – every two or three months I decide to totally redo the site in a new system, whether it’s a crappy custom system of my own, then Joomla, and now Wordpress.
Try to bear with me if you can; none of the stuff on the other system is intact at this moment and I’m working on repairing and re-linking everything in the correct categories.
And I’m GLAD to say Offworld, that crappy sprite comic I did, will NOT be coming back. Thats one blight I’m glad to be rid of.
