Livewire HQ

Been working on the LWAR project, a php-tick based racing simulation game, so there’s been very few updates here. I’ll post more on that once I get it to a point where there’s more to it than a page that just shows news, but has no game attached to it.

Also, updating plugins and WP to 2.8, we’ll see what happens.

Caught up in a php-racing game project I’m trying to do, have it coded partially in c# for now cause I can make c# work a lot faster than I can php.

But other than that, not a lot different.  Changed my avatar on the forums and uploaded a ton of Starcraft avatars, but not much else.

Is in the works. So far I think I’ve fixed the glitch where it reports a system as offline when it’s not (I started unloading used TCPClient’s, and I stopped checking via TCPClient if an HTTP server was online, the DownloadWebPage system I’m using covers that on its own).

Working on adding in a Queue so it’ll only test X servers at once, might come in handy if anyone’s on a system where it’s limited in number of concurrent outgoing pending connections, and the list has a bad day and a bunch are slow to reply or offline.

Then if I can figure out why the hell it doesn’t work, E-mail notifications’ll make a come back. No promises, had a hella hard time with these before.

Sysalive 3’s getting tweaked sooner or later, turns out another user on x10hosting located a very annoying glitch that I have been able to replicate several times, and now need to figure out HOW THE **** TO STOP IT (it says a system is offline when it connects just fine; the issue is it, for some reason, can’t connect even though its online).

And lately I’ve been wanting to actually make a game with XNA, kinda stuck for ideas, but as long as I can make it work with the 360 gamepad, good enough for me.

I won’t say stay tuned cause lord knows it’ll be a while before I get any good ambition up.

Made up a random app that uses c# to index the files on a dvd/cd/drive and let you search them via MySQL.  Useful more for dvd/cd “mosh-pit” backups where there’s no organization whatsoever.

Problem is, I’ve no idea how exactly to -publish- an app like this, nor do I have a clue how to make it so you can specify certain bits of information so it’ll work on anything but a default MySQL install that comes with XAMPP.

Good news?  Works for finding stuff.  Irritates me a bit when I searched the discs 3 times for where my emergency backup of System Shock 2 was, and I could’ve just spent the 60 minutes to get the app working for indexing (it can’t search, I was using XAMPP’s install of PHPMyAdmin to search it for now), and discovered it’s on Backup 3, under the folder “Plastic Hammer.”  Why it’s under that folder, no idea.

Next project?  Time machine so I can go back and ask myself -why- it’s in the Plastic Hammer folder.

Buddy of mine got me restarted on SysAlive 3 again, we actually located some bugs I need to fix (greeeeat, means I’m re-writing cause the old code is hideous, although it’s more cause I didn’t know what I was doing with some of the stuff).

And the wordpress Avatar thing I had needed updating, updated that too.  Cheers!

Really hardly keeping things updated, aren’t I?

Here’s some irony – those GRID accident reel videos are actually already uploaded and ready to DivX Web Player view, but I’m so lazy I didn’t put in a rough bandwidth calculator so should they happen to get linked and viewed too many times (doubtful at best), it’d full-stop that section of the site.

I might try uploading to youtube later but I’m not positive they’ll agree with my use of DivX.  It’ll probably degrade the video even more than it already is.

Other than that, mucking about a bit more with Ajax and PHP, seeing what kinds of things I can put together.  Gots me an idea for a game engine, not entirely positive it’ll work, but the idea is there so who knows.

Prolly do something redonkulous like Tic-Tac-Toe as Proof-Of-Concept though.

But that’s about it so far.  Been in a rather large coding slump, although I -did- end up taking a bunch of GRID videos and spliced them together to Spiderbait’s 5th Set in DivX format, might just be able to get that uploaded here later.

Hopefully I can, my parents seemed to think it was cool (although my dad was just like “Games’ve come a long way since PacMan…”)

One of our new users, MidnightSlacker, noticed there’s a box in the start menu where something like a user-specific image (Avatar) is supposed to load; seems Wordpress didn’t come with much for avatars to begin with.

Located and installed a plugin for it, although in all honesty I’ll probably be keeping a close eye on the avatars being used – keep them clean or they’ll be gone

Oh, and if you don’t upload one, it’s using a randomly generated fractal image or something now.  I honestly have no idea what it’s called but I kinda like it

Frankly not sure what kind of a slump I managed to get myself into, just haven’t had the heart to open up the freakin project file and get the screens done :S

Soon as I get out of it I’ll work on getting all my try-catch’s in place so it doesn’t void its bowels any time one of the XML’s has a ‘ out of place.

Oh, and I’m updating WP to 2.7.1, seems they did another update.
